In the domain of action cameras, the AKASO Brave 7 LE, currently only £149.99 on Amazon, has made waves as an affordable yet feature-rich device. Drawing comparisons with more expensive models such as those from GoPro and DJI, this budget-friendly alternative promises excellent value for money with its array of functions and features. This comprehensive review aims to delve into every aspect of the AKASO Brave 7 LE, providing readers with a thorough understanding of its capabilities and performance. I was kindly gifted this camera and asked to write an honest review.

Introduction

The AKASO Brave 7 LE is a compact action camera that offers an alternative to the higher-end models in the market, such as those from the GoPro lineup. Despite its lower price point, it boasts an array of features that make it a worthy contender in the action camera space. I was kindly gifted this product to test and provide this honest review.

Design and Build

The AKASO Brave 7 LE sports a sleek design with a rubberised and finely textured surface that lends it a premium feel. It is incredibly portable and can be mounted on a variety of action camera mounts, rigs, or helmets. The camera also features dual screens—a standard 2-inch rear touch screen and a front-facing screen—which come in handy for selfies or for monitoring yourself during video recording.

Waterproofing

One standout feature of the Brave 7 LE is its waterproof capabilities. The camera is rated IPX7 for water resistance, which means it can be submerged in water up to 3.3 feet deep (approximately 1m) for up to 30 minutes without needing a separate waterproof case. This ability to handle underwater recording out of the box sets it apart from many other low-cost alternatives that require additional waterproof casing. Equipped with a 131FT/40M waterproof case, it can protect your camera well when you are doing water sports like swimming, surfing, diving, etc.

Technical Specifications of The Akaso Brave 7 LE

The camera uses a Sony IMX 458 CMOS sensor and a high silicon 3559v200 chipset, combined with an ARM cortex A7 microprocessing chip. These components work together to deliver stunning photo and video quality within a 170-degree field of view.

In terms of image resolution, the camera can capture images at 20-megapixel, with various image sizes to choose from. When it comes to video recording, it can handle 4K at 30 frames per second, 2K at both 30 and 60 frames per second, 1080p at 30, 60 and 90 frames per second, as well as 720p at 30, 60 and 120 frames per second.

The Brave 7 LE also features a digital zoom function and supports a maximum storage capacity of 256 gigabytes via a microSD card.

Image Stabilisation

The Brave 7 LE boasts electronic image stabilisation (EIS) with a 6-axis gyroscope. This feature aims to deliver smooth footage, especially in fast-moving situations, making it an excellent choice for capturing action-packed adventures.

Battery Life

The camera comes with two 1350-milliamp lithium-ion cells. It promises a battery life of up to 110 minutes when filming video at 4K resolution.

Audio Features

The Brave 7 LE is equipped with an internal microphone that allows it to record sound directly. It also supports the use of an external microphone made by AKASO, although this needs to be purchased separately.

Additional Features

The camera houses several nifty features that enhance its usability. These include a voice control feature that lets you operate the camera hands-free using simple voice commands and a 2.4 gigahertz wireless remote controller with an LCD screen that displays the camera's recording status.

Additionally, the camera can connect to the AKASO Go app, which enables you to film, edit and share your videos directly from the app.

Performance

The AKASO Brave 7 LE delivers impressive photos and video resolution quality, especially considering its price point. It's packed with numerous functions and features, making it a versatile tool for all kinds of video creation scenarios.

Cons

To be fair to the camera, the only issue I found was that it took a bit of getting used to its functionality; the buttons are not the easiest to press, and it's not apparent what the buttons are for; however, there are 3 buttons, so it doesn't take much learning. Again, taking into account the price, you quickly get used to this!

Conclusion of The Akaso Brave 7 LE

In summary, the AKASO Brave 7 LE, priced at £149.99, is an affordable action camera that doesn't skimp on features or performance. While it might not have the prowess of some big-name brands, it presents an excellent value proposition for those seeking a budget-friendly alternative. With its impressive range of features and commendable performance, this camera is a solid choice for anyone looking to step into the world of action cameras.
